Job Overview

The Production Manager will oversee all day-to-day print manufacturing and finishing activities. The primary focus of this role is to bridge the gap between technical operations and business profitability. You will lead production teams, optimize complex workflows (across digital, large-format, and offset systems), manage departmental budgets, and enforce strict quality control metrics to ensure clients receive high-quality print products on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

1. Production Planning & Workflow Management

Scheduling: Formulate, implement, and track complex master production schedules to meet critical client deadlines and fast turnaround times.

Workflow Optimization: Coordinate seamlessly with prepress, graphic design, finishing, and installation teams to eliminate production bottlenecks.

Resource Allocation: Allocate machine usage and production labor efficiently to maximize floor capacity based on incoming sales forecasts.

Equipment Maintenance: Oversee preventative maintenance schedules and immediate repairs for all printing presses, cutters, and binders to minimize downtime.

2. Financial Metrics & Cost Control

P&L Management: Manage the production department's operational expenditure (OpEx) and budgets.

Waste Reduction: Track and minimize material usage (substrates, inks, plates, and consumables) and implement lean production principles to reduce costly errors.

KPI Tracking: Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) including total output, turnaround speed, and error margins.

Budget Alignment: Work closely with the finance team on budgeting, forecasting, and actual product cost analysis compared to initial sales quotes.

3. Quality Assurance & Control

Standards Enforcement: Establish and enforce rigid quality assurance benchmarks across all stages of production (pre-press to post-press).

Job Verification: Confirm color consistency, registration accuracy, text clarity, and finishing standards (folding, laminating, binding) before jobs clear the floor.

Issue Resolution: Lead investigations into quality issues or client complaints, implementing definitive corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

4. Leadership & People Management

Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and lead team leaders, press operators, and production assistants.

Performance Management: Set transparent performance metrics, monitor attendance/overtime, and conduct regular skills training or performance reviews.

Culture: Build a highly accountable, safe, ethical, and collaborative working environment on the production floor.

5. Supply Chain & Supplier Relations

Inventory Control: Track stock levels of raw materials (paper, specialized media, inks, solvents) to ensure zero production delays.

Vendor Relations: Manage relationships with key agricultural or commercial material suppliers and negotiate cost-effective raw material pricing structures.
