Role purpose
Support the class teacher in maintaining a calm, safe and purposeful Montessori environment while helping individual children participate, care for themselves and develop independence.
Key responsibilities
Prepare, reset and care for the classroom environment and Montessori materials.
Support individual children and small groups under the teacher’s direction without interrupting concentration unnecessarily.
Assist with arrival, toileting, handwashing, meals, rest, outdoor play and dismissal.
Observe children and share relevant, factual information with the class teacher.
Maintain hygiene, safety, attendance and safeguarding routines.
Help prepare learning materials, displays and classroom records.
Supervise transitions and ensure no child is left unattended.
Communicate professionally with colleagues and refer parent questions to the class teacher where appropriate.
Participate in training and demonstrate a willingness to deepen Montessori practice.
Qualifications and experience
Certificate or diploma in Early Childhood Development, Montessori Education, Teacher Training or a related field.
TSC registration where applicable and a valid certificate of good conduct.
5–10 years of experience supporting children in kindergarten or early-years settings.
Practical understanding of child safeguarding, hygiene, positive guidance and classroom routines.
Patient, observant, physically active and willing to support personal-care routines.
A genuine respect for children’s independence and concentration.
