Attachment is a course requirement with its own paperwork and its own timing, and most students lose placements to process rather than to competition. This is what the process expects of you, written for students and the staff who advise them.
Request it from your department or attachment coordinator before you start applying. Most employers will not consider a student application without it, and offices get slow as the deadline approaches.
"Attachment in the ICT department" is far stronger than "any available attachment". It shows you know what the organisation does and makes it easy for the recipient to forward your letter to the right person.
If the advert says hand-deliver to a named office, email will often be ignored, and the reverse is equally true. Where a reference number or subject line is specified, use it verbatim — many are filtered automatically.
Personal accident cover for the attachment period is a common requirement and is inexpensive. Having it ready removes a delay at the point where an organisation is otherwise ready to take you.
Track every organisation, the date, the channel and any reference number. It prevents duplicate applications, and it tells you who to follow up with after two weeks of silence.
An industrial attachment is a supervised work placement that Kenyan universities, TVET institutions and colleges require students to complete before graduating, usually lasting between one and three months. The institution supplies an introduction letter and an assessment form, the employer supervises the work and signs off on it, and the student submits a logbook or report for marks. It is a course requirement first and work experience second, which is why it is treated differently from a normal job application.
Apply two to three months before your attachment period starts. Most Kenyan institutions run attachment during the long holiday from April to August, so applications realistically need to go out between January and May. Government bodies, county public service boards and large parastatals are slowest and often close applications months ahead, while private companies frequently place students at shorter notice.
In most cases: an introduction or recommendation letter from your institution, a one-page CV, a short application letter naming the department you want, a copy of your national ID, and a copy of your student ID or admission letter. Many organisations also require proof of personal accident insurance covering the attachment period, and some request academic transcripts. Send exactly what the advert asks for, in the format it asks for.
It varies and you should not assume. Many attachments are unpaid, some offer a stipend that covers transport and lunch, and a number of banks, telecommunications firms and international organisations pay a monthly allowance. Adverts that state a stipend usually say so explicitly; where it is not mentioned, it is reasonable to ask politely at the offer stage.
An attachment is a course requirement completed while you are still studying, and it is assessed by your institution. An internship is usually taken after completing studies, runs longer, and is arranged directly between you and the employer. A graduate trainee programme is a structured, paid, often competitive scheme for recent graduates that is intended to lead to permanent employment. The entry requirements and the paperwork differ, so read each advert carefully.
More than most students expect. Placement rates for a single well-targeted application are low, and organisations receive far more requests than they have slots. Sending a tailored application to every relevant opening you can find, and keeping a record of who you applied to and when, is what changes the outcome — which is the part RezSync automates.
Placement comes down to volume and timing. Tell RezSync your course and where you can work, and it applies on your behalf as new attachment and internship openings appear — with a full log of what went where, and a pause switch you own.
