Digital Audio Ad Tech Specialist (Technical Mandate)

Role Overview

A leading regional media organization is building East Africa's first digital audio super-app, aggregating radio livestreams, podcasts, and audiobooks across the region for a Q4 2026 launch. We are seeking a technical specialist to build our ad tech infrastructure from the ground up. You will be responsible for technical architecture, programmatic integrations, data-driven audience targeting frameworks, and continuous optimization of the audio ad-serving pipeline.

Key Technical Responsibilities

Ad Tech Architecture: Design, implement, and maintain the platform's core ad tech infrastructure from scratch.

Programmatic & Systems Integration: Lead technical setups for Dynamic Ad Insertion (DAI), VAST/DAAST protocols, and DSP/SSP integrations with real-time bidding (RTB) capabilities.

Data & Targeting Frameworks: Build robust audience targeting frameworks utilizing listener data, behavior, and platform analytics.

Integrations & Product Strategy: Manage technical integrations with partner radio stations and contribute technical insights to the core product roadmap.

Attribution & Measurement: Implement campaign tracking, attribution modeling, and measurement tools to deliver reliable analytics and prove clear ROI.

Required Technical Experience & Qualifications

Hands-on technical experience in digital audio, programmatic media, or ad tech ecosystems.

In-depth working knowledge of VAST/DAAST standards, Dynamic Ad Insertion (DAI), and modern ad-serving platforms.

Solid understanding of DSP/SSP architecture, RTB workflows, and programmatic audio infrastructure.

Backgrounds in programmatic display/video engineering, media product management, app development, or digital-focused broadcast operations are welcome.

Based in Kenya or Uganda with an understanding of regional media technology infrastructure.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

System Uptime & Latency: Maintain high platform availability (target 99.9%) and minimize ad request response times (<100ms ad rendering delay).

Ad Insertion & Fill Rate: Achieve optimal ad call success rates and fill rates across livestreams and podcasts via DAI and programmatic routes.

Audio Completion Rate (ACR) & VTR: Target audio ad completion rates above 85% through stable stream rendering and reliable VAST/DAAST execution.

Partner Onboarding Efficiency: Successfully integrate new radio partner feeds into the ad architecture within target onboarding windows.

Tracking & Attribution Accuracy: Ensure zero data loss on impressions, click-through rates (CTR), and conversion events passed between DSPs, SSPs, and measurement tools.
