Gender Based Violence Case Worker

Job Description / Responsibilities

WGSS Coordination: Support the coordination and supervision of activities in Women and Girls’ Safe Spaces (WGSS).

Case Identification and Management: Maintain regular contact with community-based social workers and monitoring officers to identify cases requiring support and provide timely case management from initial assessment to case closure.

Psychosocial Support: Provide basic emotional and psychosocial support to women, girls, and their family members as needed.

Needs Assessment and Material Assistance: Assess individual needs and facilitate access to material assistance, non-food items (NFIs), dignity kits, and transportation for medical treatment where necessary.

Referrals and Service Coordination: Refer and, when necessary, accompany clients to appropriate service providers while maintaining effective relationships with service providers and community stakeholders.

Case Monitoring and Reporting: Lead weekly case management meetings, follow up on cases, report progress, and promptly escalate emergencies or cases requiring special attention to the Protection Officer

Professional Conduct and Compliance: Promote teamwork, maintain a respectful and non-judgmental attitude, represent Malteser International professionally, adhere to organizational policies and codes of conduct, and perform other assigned duties.

Skill/Education/Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Social Sciences, or a related field.

At least two years of relevant experience in GBV case management, protection, social work, psychosocial support, or humanitarian programming.

Experience in community outreach, awareness-raising, or data collection, preferably in humanitarian or crisis-affected settings.

Understanding of GBV guiding principles, survivor-centred case management, referral pathways, confidentiality, informed consent, and the do-no-harm principle.

Experience working with women, girls, survivors of violence, and other vulnerable groups.

Knowledge of safeguarding, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), and accountability to affected populations.

Experience using Inter-Agency Case Management forms and the GBVIMS/Primero platform is highly desirable.

Strong communication, active-listening, interpersonal, counselling, and teamwork skills, with the ability to work respectfully with diverse communities.

Good organizational, planning, and time-management skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.

Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel, and good written and spoken English.

Knowledge of relevant local languages is an advantage, including Hausa and Kanuri.

Duration of contract: November 2026 - September 2027

Salary according to Malteser international salary grade
