Our client, a dynamic logistics company with established operations in the Middle East and a growing footprint in East Africa, is seeking to recruit a
General Manager
for their Kampala Office.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and driving the growth of the company’s logistics and freight forwarding operations in Uganda. The role focuses on expanding market share, optimizing operational efficiency across air, ocean, and land freight, and ensuring strong financial performance. The GM will provide strategic direction while ensuring compliance with local regulations and alignment with regional and global logistics strategies.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute country strategy to grow freight forwarding (air, ocean, and road) and contract logistics, driving revenue growth, profitability, and market expansion.
Oversee full logistics operations including customs clearance, transportation, warehousing, and last-mile delivery, ensuring efficiency and service excellence.
Lead pricing strategies, tender management, contract negotiations, and customer acquisition across key sectors such as import/export, project cargo, and distribution.
Build and maintain strong relationships with shipping lines, airlines, transporters, port authorities, customs agencies, and key clients to support business growth and operational continuity.
Monitor P&L performance, manage costs, and drive margin improvement while ensuring financial discipline and sustainable profitability.
Ensure adherence to Ugandan trade regulations and international freight standards, mitigate supply chain risks, and lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing leadership team while driving operational excellence through process improvement and digitalization.
Key Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field (MBA preferred).
Minimum of 10–15 years’ experience in logistics and freight forwarding, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
Strong expertise in international freight forwarding (air & ocean), customs clearance, and East African trade corridors.
Proven track record in driving revenue growth, operational efficiency, and overall business performance.
Demonstrated experience in P&L management, financial performance improvement, and commercial business development.
Strong stakeholder management capabilities, including established networks within ports, airlines, regulators, and proven ability in strategic leadership, compliance, and change management
