You will design and execute the tests that prove each migrated service behaves exactly as its OSB original (functional equivalence), build and maintain the API/service automation suite that makes regression repeatable across migration waves, and run performance tests that confirm the WSO2 platform meets telecom SLAs under production-like load. The team is technical, agile and under deadline pressure; you are expected to read service specifications and payloads yourself, work directly with developers and architects, and defend test results in front of a demanding customer.
Key responsibilities
OSB/WSO2 service testing
Analyse OSB service fromspecifications, WSDL/XSD and OpenAPI contracts, pipelines, transformations and routing rules to derive test conditions; identify gaps and ambiguities before build starts.
Design and execute functional, integration and end-to-end tests for OSB and WSO2 services: SOAP and REST calls, JMS/queue flows, DB and file adapters, security policies, fault and retry handling.
Prove functional equivalence between each OSB service and its WSO2 MI replacement: same request, same response, same side effects, same error behaviour; run parallel-run comparisons during migration waves.
Build test data and stubs/mocks for upstream and downstream BSS/OSS systems (CRM, billing, provisioning, product catalogue) when real systems are unavailable.
API/service automation testing
Build and maintain the automated regression suite for the API/service layer (for example Postman/Newman, SoapUI/ReadyAPI, REST Assured, Karate or equivalent), covering contract, functional and negative scenarios.
Integrate automation into the CI/CD pipeline so every migration wave and release is regression-tested automatically; maintain reporting dashboards.
Automate response comparison between OSB and WSO2 outputs to speed up equivalence testing.
Keep the suite stable and relevant as APIs are standardised and versioned.
Performance testing
Define non-functional test strategy with the architects: throughput, latency, concurrency, soak, spike and failover scenarios reflecting telecom peak loads (bill runs, campaign launches, month-end).
Build and run performance tests (JMeter, Gatling, LoadRunner or equivalent) against WSO2 MI/API Manager and compare against OSB baselines and SLAs.
Analyse results with the platform team: bottlenecks, tuning recommendations, capacity findings; re-test after fixes.
Test management and quality
Produce test plans, test cases, traceability matrices, defect reports and test summary/exit reports per wave.
Log, triage and track defects to closure with developers; reproduce issues with precise evidence (payloads, logs, timings).
Support SIT, UAT, cut-over rehearsals, go-live verification and hypercare, including out-of-hours windows.
Stakeholder and customer work
Work day to day with a technical, agile, dynamic and demanding team of architects, OSB/WSO2 developers and analysts; take part in sprint planning, stand-ups and retrospectives.
Explain test coverage, results and risks to technical stakeholders (platform owners, architects) and business stakeholders (application owners, business units).
Hold a firm, evidence-based line on quality with a difficult customer and under time pressure: what passed, what failed, what the risk is, what it takes to close it.
Flexibility
Extend hands-on help where the delivery needs it: test data setup, environment checks, documentation, defect analysis, supporting other testers or analysts.
Available for cut-over windows and customer escalations outside standard hours when required.
Required experience and skills
Overall experience: 7+ years in software testing, of which 4+ years testing SOA/OSB integration services
OSB service testing: Extensive hands-on experience testing Oracle Service Bus / SOA Suite services: proxy and business services, pipelines, XQuery/XSLT transformations, adapters (DB, JMS, File, FTP), OWSM security policies, fault handling; reading OSB logs and consoles to diagnose failures
WSO2: Working knowledge of WSO2 Micro Integrator / API Manager concepts (APIs, proxy services, sequences, mediators, endpoints) and how to test them; experience on an OSB-to-WSO2 migration preferred
API/service automation: Strong experience automating SOAP and REST service tests with tools such as Postman/Newman, SoapUI/ReadyAPI, REST Assured, Karate or similar; scripting in Java, Groovy, JavaScript or Python; CI/CD integration (Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps)
Performance testing: Proven experience designing and running performance tests with JMeter, Gatling, LoadRunner or similar; result analysis, bottleneck identification and reporting against SLAs
Integration fundamentals: SOAP, REST, WSDL, XSD, JSON, XML, XPath/JSONPath, JMS, OAuth2/WS-Security; SQL for data verification; comfortable with Linux command line and log analysis
Test practice: Test planning, risk-based test design, traceability, defect management (Jira, ALM or equivalent), test reporting and exit criteria
Agile team fit: 3+ years in technical, agile, dynamic and demanding delivery teams; Scrum/Kanban in practice under fixed migration deadlines
Stakeholder management: Experience presenting test coverage, results and risk to both technical and business stakeholders
Customer and pressure: Experience working with difficult customers and teams on time-bound activities (cut-overs, go-lives, regression windows) while holding quality standards
Telecom domain: Extensive knowledge of mobile operator processes and systems: lead-to-cash, order management, provisioning/activation, charging and billing, CRM, product catalogue, partner/interconnect; typical BSS/OSS landscapes; awareness of TM Forum eTOM/SID/Open APIs
Communication: Clear, precise written and verbal English; defect reports and test summaries that developers and managers can act on without follow-up questions
Added advantage
Experience on the MTN account – prior testing or delivery for MTN Group or any MTN operating company (OpCo), including familiarity with MTN's test governance, release processes, group integration and API standards, BSS/OSS landscape and vendor ecosystem.
Completed testing on an OSB/SOA to WSO2 migration, including parallel-run and equivalence testing.
Experience with service virtualisation (WireMock, Mountebank, Parasoft) for unavailable BSS/OSS systems.
Experience with WSO2 API Manager testing: throttling, security policies, analytics.
Experience with contract testing (Pact, OpenAPI schema validation) and observability tools (ELK, Grafana, Dynatrace, AppDynamics).
Experience with Oracle BSS/OSS products (Siebel CRM, BRM, OSM, UIM) or equivalent telecom stacks (Amdocs, Ericsson, Netcracker).
Experience with African or Middle East telecom operators and multi-country, multi-OpCo programmes.
