University Librarian

Duties

The University Librarian is a Principal Officer of the University who is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day administration of the University Library and the co-ordination of all Library services in the University.

He/She is also responsible for the short, medium, and long-term planning, administration, and expansion of collections and services of the University Library and their maintenance at levels that meet the teaching and research needs in all programmes of the University.

Qualifications

The candidate to be considered for the position should possess the following:

A good Honours Degree, Master's Degree and Ph.D in Library and Information Science from a recognised University.

A valid membership of the Library Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN) among other relevant professional associations.

A minimum of fifteen (15) years post-graduation and professional experience in a University or other recognised body.

Requisite experience as a Deputy University Librarian or its equivalent in the University system for at least five (5) years.

The candidate for the position is expected to be a person:

With verifiable knowledge in the use of Computer Software in Modern Library operations, especially in the area of e-library platforms.

With very good administrative and managerial skills, able to mobilise resources, manage budget, etc.

Of high integrity, who promotes excellence.

With good leadership qualities, who can inspire and motivate staff under him/her

Who is focused and innovative.

With excellent physical and mental health.

Who must not be older than sixty (60) years at the time of application.

Salary and Conditions of Service

The appointment is for a period of five (5) years effective from the date of assumption of duty, and may be extended by one year subject to good performance.

The salary is as applicable to similar positions in Federal Universities in Nigeria and as determined from time to time by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
