Googah Goats is seeking a reliable, hardworking Assistant Herdsman for our goat farm in Mpigi.

Salary and living arrangements

- UGX 250,000 per month, plus food and accommodation.

- This is a live-in position.

- Accommodation consists of a bunk-bed sleeping space in a room shared with the main herdsman.

You will work under the main herdsman’s guidance. Your primary responsibility will be collecting and transporting forage daily by bicycle. This is physically demanding outdoor work and may involve longer bicycle journeys when suitable forage is unavailable nearby.

Responsibilities

Collect suitable forage and banana peels from approved locations and transport it safely to the farm by bicycle.

Meet agreed collection schedules and quantities, reporting shortages or access problems promptly.

Assist with grazing and supervising goats, maintaining group separations and preventing damage to neighbouring gardens.

Clean goat pens, feeding areas, water troughs and equipment.

Assist with feeding, providing clean water and morning and evening goat counts.

Monitor goats and promptly report illness, injuries, unusual behaviour, births or missing animals.

Look after the bicycle and other farm tools.

Developing responsibilities

As you learn the routines and demonstrate reliable performance, you will gradually take responsibility for two assigned goat groups. Their feeding, cleaning, grazing, counts and daily monitoring will remain under the main herdsman’s guidance. Forage and banana peels collection will continue as part of your coordinated duties.

Requirements

Able to ride a bicycle confidently over longer distances and carry forage and banana peels safely.

Able and willing to perform regular physical farm work.

Reliable, punctual and willing to follow instructions.

Comfortable living in shared accommodation with the main herdsman.

Able to communicate problems clearly and keep simple records with guidance.

Previous livestock experience is preferred, along with a willingness to learn proper goat handling and care.
